Learn to paint with oils and discover the versatility and attraction of painting with a more traditional medium. Oils make a good choice for a beginner as they dry slowly allowing you to sculpt with the paint and move the image around on the canvas.
Throughout the year we will run different themes, exploring Oil painting from foundations, to painting like the Old masters, looking at abstraction, painting the nude, portraits and more. All the courses are 5 weeks and suited to beginners and each new theme helps to build your art technique and allow you to continue practising throughout the year.
These courses will teach you the fundamentals of painting, building layers and working with mediums. Working with creative still life props or life models. these courses are both fun and informative, you will be encouraged to develop your own style and gain confidence in experimenting with the medium further.

Frequently Asked Questions
Why has this course changed from 9 weeks to 5 weeks?
We have re-structured our school terms to allow for more variation in courses offered throughout the year, giving students more options to re-enrol and continue their learning with consecutive modules that build on previous knowledge. The 5wk courses aim to deliver more information in a shorter time. You will spend slightly less time in class finishing works and more time learning techniques. You may start exercises in class and finish them at home. We have given each term a focus or theme so you can become more confident in an area before moving onto the next subject.
Who is this course suited to?
This course is for absolute beginners, and great for those who find the 9 wk commitment too long. Everyone is getting increasingly busier these days and these shorter blocks of study give you more flexibility throughout the year and allow for more special interest subjects. You can do any term independently or enrol in mulitple terms to build on your knowledge, each term we cover a new topic.
